Madden Ultimate Team Tips

  • Madden Ultimate Team (or MUT for short) is a meta trading card game in Madden NFL 20 where you create a team formed from card packs. This page will have some tips for getting started in MUT for the beginner. Card packs are functionally lootboxes.Note that advice on specific cards or team makeups, such as MUT quicksell values, is beyond the scope of this guide. New cards are added all the time, so there is no “best card” or “best player” for Madden Ultimate Team, although there may be a particular position that you'll want to maximize based on your playstyle. There is a fantastic database called MUTHead that has every single card listed, including its quicksell value, the player's ratings, their chemistries, and even how much it's going for on each platform's auction house. Head over MUTHead.com to check it out.

Getting Started with Madden Ultimate Team in Madden NFL 20If you have never played MUT before, Madden NFL 20 does an excellent job guiding you through the early process of playing MUT. You'll be asked to pick a team for your first pack of cards, with your set favorite team being default. This will also set your initial uniforms, stadium, and coach to match the team. If you played MUT in Madden NFL 19 and still have the same player account, your team name will carry over, but otherwise you'll be starting from scratch.Your first pack will contain a shell of a team comprised mainly of players ranked in the low- to mid-60s, so you'll want to upgrade them quickly. Madden NFL 20 throws you immediately into a few challenges at low difficulties. When you beat those challenges, you'll get more card packs. After that, you'll be sent to the main MUT hub. There you can review and rename your team, and you'll likely have some card packs to open if you've played MUT before or pre-ordered Madden NFL 20. Note that you can hold onto as many card packs as you want and open them at any time. You can go to the Store tile to purchase more card packs. There are four types of currencies:Coins are denoted with a yellow coin icon. These are earned from playing just about everything in MUT, and they are the “normal” currency.

Points are denoted with a green dollar bill icon. These are acquired from paying real money through your platform's shop, such as the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store.

Trophies are denoted with a pink pentagon icon. These are only earned from competitive games and cannot be earned against the AI.

Training Points are denoted with a purple hexagon icon. These are used to upgrade players, though they can also be used to buy powerful cards.

At first your team will be too weak to do much, and you'll need to get through some solo challenges to earn some coins before you can do anything of consequence. From the hub, go to the Play category to see all the gameplay modes.

As you collect more cards and acquire more currencies, you can begin to participate in the Auction House and Trade Block. There, you can acquire cards directly from other players, or sell your cards to eliminate unneeded players. You can also “quicksell” a card for some coins or training points, which effectively eliminates it from the world. It's usually less profitable to quicksell good cards, but more profitable to quicksell bad cards since few or no players would buy them. The card itself will state which currency and for how much a quicksell would net you.Note that some cards, such as many Ultimate Trainer cards, cannot be quicksold nor traded or auctioned away. These cards will be marked with a very tiny “NAT” (which stands for “not auctionable/tradable”) in the top-right corner of the card just above the OVR rating. The Auction House and Trade Blocks are independent per platform, so a card for sale on the PlayStation 4 will not be able to be bought for that price on the Xbox One or Windows. The Madden NFL 20 card database called MUTHead lists every card's going price on the Auction Houses per platform.Note that even if you are not subscribed to your platform's multiplayer mode, such as PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold, you can still participate in the Auction House, Trade Block, Weekly Challenges, and everything else. The only thing you're barred from is multiplayer matches.

Rewards vary based on mode and difficulty, but generally playing against human players is the most rewarding. Even if you're a strictly solo player, you can still participate in the weekly events for good rewards.MUT Player Abilities, X-Factors, and ChemistryThe process for building up your team is slow, so if you've never played MUT before, don't be too worried if your MUT team seems a little more difficult to use than a Franchise team. First consider who your core team is based on your playstyle; if you like deep passing, prioritize your WRs and QB. Those positions should be upgraded first, then slowly build the rest of the team around them.

Because players in MUT never get old or have limited contracts, buffing up the same specific players who you trust, rather than the full team all at once, will lead to success. To upgrade your MUT players, you'll need to find training cards that can be quicksold for Training Points. These will come randomly in packs as well. You may find some in the marketplace, but they will likely be expensive for the upper-tier ones.If you're strapped for currencies, you can also look into player chemistry. Many cards will boost other cards if certain conditions are met. For example, in the screenshot above, two cards of JuJu Smith-Schuster are being compared. Both cards feature the “Pittsburgh Steelers” chemistry, which means if enough Steelers players are active on the team, all Steelers players on the team get a boost to their OVR ratings. The card on the left also has the “Ultimate Trainers Boost” chemistry, which means if that card is active on the team, all cards that are in the Ultimate Trainers set will be boosted.

A “decent” card with a chemistry that works with the rest of your team may be much cheaper but almost as effective than an elite card.It takes more than a single card to activate a Chemistry, however. To view the potential and active chemistries, navigate to the Team tab, then the Adjust Lineup tile. In any category there, press Right on the left stick or D-Pad. You'll see something to the screenshot below, and notice where the current highlighted tile is.The highlighted tile says “Pittsburgh Steelers, Tier 0, Next: 1/5.” This means that the Pittsburgh Steelers chemistry is not active. It would take at least 5 players on the current active roster to activate. Also remember that only one card of a given player may be active, so even though this entire deck has two JuJu Smith-Schuster cards, only one can be active at once.Still with the same screenshot, the tile at the top of the chemistry list, the Ultimate Trainers Boost chemistry, is at Tier 1.

This means it's active as long as no one is removed with that chemistry from the active deck. If you highlight the tile and press X (PS4) or A (XB1), you get a breakdown of the chemistry as seen below. As you can see, not every attribute will rise with the first tier of the chemistry, but any boost is better than no boost. If you zoom in on the screenshot, you can also see that the three offensive players who have this chemistry active (Greg Olsen, Todd Gurley II, and Matt Ryan) are subtly highlighted in yellow. The highlight may be a little hard to make out due to the background, but this way you can plan around your chemistries and see if any particular player should be kept due to how well they're gelling with the rest of the team. With the addition of X-Factors and Abilities, Training Points can also be used to unlock them on certain players. Although Abilities are unlimited, your entire active team can only have three X-Factors. These need to be equipped once you have them.

In the screenshot below, the player has X-Factors activated on Jim Brown and Patrick Mahomes, which you can see along the right side of the screen.X-Factors can be freely equipped or unequipped between games once players earn them. It's best to choose X-Factors for the positions you've built the team around subject to your own playstyle. For example, the “Bazooka” X-Factor is fantastic if you use a lot of deep passes, but if you prefer a shorter passing game like the West Coast Offense, it may be better to unequip a Bazooka X-Factor in favor of something more useful. Of course, if you have three players or fewer who even have X-Factors, you may as well equip them all until you get better cards. Hope Madden NFL 20 MUT players like this article, if you are interested in more Madden Coins news and guides , welcome you to visit https://www.igvault.com/NFL-20-Coins
