The critical space of dogs

  Have you ever wondered what your dog will feel when you, a friend, a stranger or another dog gets too close to him? Have you started to observe their reactions? Dogs, like us, have a personal critical space and we seldom give the necessary importance to respect that space.

  
  

  The proxemics refers to the study of the relationship between the person and space, personal space; that is, he who surrounds us in front, behind and on the side. The distance with which we feel comfortable varies according to the person we are with and can be an intimate, personal, social or public distance.

  
  

  How would you feel if you are in an elevator, a person enters and is placed very close to you, having more space in the elevator? The same happens with dogs, they have their personal space and feel uncomfortable; If some stranger gets too close, they will do their best to get away and try to keep a safe distance.

  
  

  There will also be people with whom they feel more confident and others with whom it is more difficult for them to establish proximity. If you see your dog move away from a particular person, try to keep his distance, do not force him to get too close, respect him and try to find out what is bothering your dog: it may be the timbre of his voice, its appearance physical, its smell or the approach form.
