Randomly saw Runescape pop up on the app store and educated me RuneScape exists. I've heard bits about it over time, but looks like it is still going on strong. What OSRS gold type of MMO is this? What's RuneScape like right now? At first glance it sort of reminds me of Ultima Online with better graphics, is that accurate? A buddy of mine and I are currently looking for something to play together, that provides co-op experience that is good. Neither of us have played Runescape. For do you'sell' me RuneScape? Fun parts things which might not be common knowledge about features and things you can do in RuneScape, etc?
Runescape is a game that is superb. Its quests are somewhat different. Training stats continuously unlocks upgrades, and on RS3, grinding isn't too bad. You will quite literally NEVER run out of things to do. There are ironman, normal multiple ways you can play, or even hardcore ironman. A normal account does not have any restrictions, an ironman cannot trade with other RuneScape players, and a hardcore cannot trade and only has 1 lifetime. Many folks would say that the biggest downside is that the microtransactions, but they are bad. They act as a daily increase to experience. Highly recommend.
The things which could differ from other mmo's is that you move with your mouse, so everything is tile and your actions are tied to the tickrate of RuneScape. Theres also a lot of microtransactions however you will find mmo's that do it far worse than rs does and you can totally ignore them where you simply use the free things they provide as it could be kinda silly not to use free stuff just given to you. Its also graphically somewhat outdated so you're probably not likely to spend a whole lot on microtransactions for decorative products.
As for some good things about RuneScape I would say theres a great deal to do along with my favourite thing about RuneScape is the fact that it's things to do outside of just fighting things to fight with additional things. Theres 28 skills in total of which 8 or 9 are battle skills (depending how you specify combat skill). Most of it is simple and grindy but some skills go incredibly heavy and they socialize with other skills in synergy that often is lacking in other mmo's. For group activities to do co-op items with a buddy theres an incredible variety of stuff to do starting from combat actions like bossing and elite dungeons into an entire skill you'll be able to train doing together (dungeoneering) in which you go through a dungeon to overcome a boss at the end. Theres also things like co-op slayer which lets you perform the slayer skill together where you receive a job to do'x' amount of creature kills.
Additionally, there are a lot of miniquests you can do collectively but they are grouped content most of the time as well and can be difficult to find people to do with determined by the minigame and time. You will also be spending a considerable quantity of time grinding abilities up to a point where you can do most things if you are new and don't know where to begin with but that can be fixed by asking more experienced RuneScape players in addition to looking things up on guides on youtube or even the wonderful wiki which RuneScape has (probably the best preserved wiki in any mmo out there). It's hard to go in detail about a lot of the things in RuneScape and its own weaknesses and strenghts but overall its a sport that holds up adequate and can be incredibly fun with the right people to play.
RuneScape also has free-to-play so don't hesitate to make a character of cheap RS gold and start trying it. The tutorial part of RuneScape has always been sort of weak but you can get over that barrier pretty quickly and I would strongly suggest going through configurations and customising your interface as the default interface is oretty unideal. Should you're feeling the camera is somewhat off in the beginning theres various camera modes in the settings. I don't know what else I would actually say to somebody who wishes to try out RuneScape but if you have any queries you are always free to inquire.
